Annual servicing
At this time of year we warn amphib owners that if the craft is not going to be used much during the winter months then it must be winterized exactly as with a small boat. History shows that if a craft is not correctly winterized then by the Spring parts have a habit of seizing up requiring expensive replacement rather than just a protection of oil or grease. Now is also a good time to do the compulsory checking of the front and rear brake systems and paint the underside metal parts that may be scratched or have surface rust. If you are interested in any of our servicing or winterization then please email us, we can collect cars if required. 41 years On By far the most important event for us last year was our celebration of 40 years of car production and 20 years of amphibious car production
![]() First prototype (1989) based on Dutton Sierra drophead, note the use of steel bumper / chassis (never again) alfresco exhaust and a bemused Tim Dutton RELIABILITY AND QUALITY For 41 years Tim Dutton has been building cars that are deliberately basic - this means they are easy and inexpensive to service / repair anywhere in the World. Many amphibious companies have come (and all gone) who build 'so called' high-tech "state of the art" craft - and why are none of them still around? Because they are unreliable and stop working when they get wet. It doesn't matter how many degrees or diplomas you have there can NEVER be a substitute for 41 years of continual vehicle production. At Dutton we can look at a component and "see" what it will look like in 10 years time and design / position it accordingly - you certainly can't learn that looking at a computer screen. This is borne out by our spectacular lack of warranty claims. In 21 years and well over 100 amphibious cars all we have replaced under warranty is a self-locking nut, a clutch cable, an air conditioning hose and a hydraulic hose (and three of the four claims were down to the original part supplier). | |||||||||||||

| *A quick search on the Internet will show up dozens of "pretend" amphibious car makers, unfortunately it is a lot easier to construct a web site than it is to manufacturer a production amphib so to sort the "wheat from the chaff" try this test: - contact the company, say you want a full road and water test and see cars being manufactured in their factory and then sit back and wait for the excuses to roll in as to why you can't actually do that. |
