TYPE APPROVAL TEST Our first amphib to be presented for Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) passed the test July 2010 so our new demo car will be available for customer testing as soon as it is registered in a couple of weeks FREE CHECK UPS As part of our continual commitment to customer service we now off entirely free of charge a check up on all Dutton and Amphijeep amphibs, including an extended water test. After the checking/testing a written report will be prepared noting if any work/servicing needs doing. You can at any time remove your car at no expense or in the alternate you can authorize us to do all or some of the work. Now is also a good time to do the compulsory checking of the front and rear brake systems and paint the underside metal parts that may be scratched or have surface rust. If you are interested in our servicing or completely free check up then please email us, we can collect cars if required or arrange for them to be collected from anywhere in the world. 41 years On By far the most important event for us last year was our celebration of 40 years of car production and 20 years of amphibious car production
![]() First prototype (1989) based on Dutton Sierra drophead, note the use of steel bumper / chassis (never again) alfresco exhaust and a bemused Tim Dutton SAFETY We have been committed to customer safety since the 1960's. As an example, in the early 1980's the department of transport could not decide whether kit cars needed a physical seat belt anchorage test. Rather than waiting for them to decide, we took it upon ourselves (at considerable expense) to do a full, physical type approval seat belt anchorage test. The pictures below show two of our cars being tested by Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA) the world renowned testing centre - needless to say all our cars passed first time.
RELIABILITY AND QUALITY ![]() Our best advert ever, sold new in 2000, used heavily by the same owner and still going strong today! For 41 years Tim Dutton has been building cars that are deliberately basic - this means they are easy and inexpensive to service / repair anywhere in the World. Many amphibious companies have come (and all gone) who build 'so called' high-tech "state of the art" craft - and why are none of them still around? Because they are unreliable and stop working when they get wet. It doesn't matter how many degrees or diplomas you have there can NEVER be a substitute for 41 years of continual vehicle production. At Dutton we can look at a component and "see" what it will look like in 10 years time and design / position it accordingly - you certainly can't learn that looking at a computer screen! This is borne out by our spectacular lack of warranty claims. In 21 years and well over 100 amphibious cars all we have replaced under warranty is a self-locking nut, a clutch cable, an air conditioning hose and a hydraulic hose (and three of the four claims were down to the original part supplier). | |||||||||||
